Austenitic high-manganese steel castings (Hadfield steel) per ASTM A128 in Mn11, Mn14 and Mn18 grades. The benchmark material for high-impact crushing and mining applications. Self-hardening under repeated impact, austenitic manganese steel provides unmatched toughness in applications where other wear-resistant materials crack or fracture prematurely.
Austenitic manganese steel (Hadfield steel) has one unique and extremely valuable property: it work-hardens under impact loading. A manganese steel casting that leaves our foundry at 200 HB will harden to 500–600 HB on its wear surface as it is used in service — without becoming brittle.
This makes manganese steel the only viable material for applications combining severe impact with abrasion — particularly jaw crusher liners, cone crusher mantles, gyratory crusher wear parts and mining equipment components that would crack or fracture in high-chrome iron or alloy steel.
